Barias is a food packaging company that, among other things, provides your summer ice creams with a beautiful wrapper. They invest significantly in sustainable mobility for everyone and open their 3rd solar park. For Roeselare, this is immediately the largest solar park under private management, good for more than 8,000 solar panels. That corresponds to the annual power supply of 1,000 households.
Sustainability is central at Barias and in our society today. To generate more green energy, battery and solar parks play an important and growing role. With a clear mission to do sustainable and social business at the forefront, Barias is now opening a 3rd solar panel park. With 8,000 solar panels, this is the largest in Roeselare and is the equivalent of the annual power supply of 1,000 households.
"The #VANRSL climate plan was launched in 2018, together with the residents and businesses striving for a climate-friendly Roeselare," said Michele Hostekint, alderman for Climate and Sustainability in the city. "With this new solar panel park, Barias gives a positive incentive to our entrepreneurs and residents. This form of sustainable and social enterprise prepares our city for the climate switch and energy transition."
Green mobility for all
With this solar panel complex, Barias supplies a large part of its own buildings, packaging machines, deep-freeze warehouses, and loading facilities with electricity.
Sustainable and social enterprise
Barias' commitment to its sustainable mission is evidenced by its recognition with the VOKA Charter for Sustainable Business. The company is receiving this prestigious award for the seventeenth year in a row due to its ongoing commitment to sustainable and socially responsible business practices, driven by the United Nations' 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
"As pioneers in sustainability, Barias is committed to making a lasting positive impact on the environment and the community," said CEO Chris Mulllie. "We believe accessible charging infrastructure is critical to promoting sustainable mobility for all. By investing in an 8,000-panel solar farm and facilitating the charging of electric vehicles, scooters and bicycles, we want to encourage and inspire others to make the switch to more environmentally friendly alternatives."
